second of two new bass-infected dub ep s with a hint of techno by the japanese mystica tribe. titletrack stars are mine and his temple immediately set off to deep dub and bass territories in these two typical mystica tribe excursions: grooving, but dark with lots of effects and tribal influences. prayer evolves around a catchy melodica that wont leave your head for days or maybe even weeks and zen stone tops it off perfectly with this gloomy scifi dubtrip.

the second tape in the series, ferro #01 continues the path through the abyss of dubbed out techno sounds: ever forward with off-kilter resonations from the echo chamber and a pounding heart-beat throughout. like #00, this one is again a tape-only-release. each cassette is a unique piece of art – stamped, numbered and equipped with a link to the digital files. but ther is no way to get these files without grabbing a tape!

berlin based martsman steps up for the latest techno release on pushing red. shrank and nycd both weigh in at less than 130 bpm despite bucket loads of shuffle. youd be forgiven for describing these sounds as garagey. shrank has some uplifting progression and plenty of hi-hats and nycd backs it all up nicely with some dub influenced tripped out sounds. another top release from pushing red. their third this year in fact.

in mood swings ep, miguel migs and shades of gray have come together to deliver a fine deep house affair drenched in rich textures, subtle undertones and moody melodies. aspects of both classic and modern deep house intertwine expertly on these four tracks, creating edge and dynamism that is dance-floor ready.

when gilles peterson reacts to a house record, you know it is a very special house record. deep and soulfull, love it - was what the 6 music dj thought of these two. if that wasnt enough, trickski described best things in life are free as one hell of a bomb. add in support from jimmy edgar, mark e, severino and dusky and this is looking like one of glasgow undergrounds most successful records to date. love games is the a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing. what starts off as hooky percussive groove slowly morphs into a full vocal classic with swirling chords and a killer synth hook. severino dropped it at fabric recently and took the roof off the place. best things in life are free is a darker affair – all wandering acid lines and moody, emotional strings - but as trickski proved when they played it at watergate, just as effective.

release number eight on london house maven george fitzgeralds manmakemusic label, the laszlo dancehall ep, connects two of the uks most exciting young producers: leon vynehall and christian piers. the sample driven crunch of vynehalls earlier productions on manmakemusic can be heard loud and clear complementing the canny but irresistible percussive and vocal shimmies of piers. aside track gave up, championed by george fitzgerald on his recent bbc essential mix for radio one, sets the pace and aims straight at the dancefloor with its strange sonic palette, at once euphoric and gritty. on the flip we get aint no time on which vynehall and piers give us their interpretation of classic house. the final track, manley harrison, is the strangest and arguably most original of the bunch and leaves the listener in no doubt as to why there is such a buzz about these two producers at the moment.

few people stand for a real underground approach to techno like adam x does. for over 20 years he has been right in the center of the scene. before moving to berlin he ran the sonic groove record shop in nyc for 15 years. the sonic groove label also owned by adam is still a dominating force in the scene and has released music of legends like abe duque, blake baxter, frankie bones, kevin saunderson and many more. with djing, producing music adam in recent years has received a lot of support from people like chris liebing and many others for his productions as adam x as well as for his aliases traversable wormhole, admx-71.adam’s sound is dark and heavily influenced by his passion for industrial and old school ebm music. with coercive persuasion on the a-side he combines these influences with a functionality that can only derive from his extensive touring as a dj and live act. it is a dark anthem that will destroy all real techno floors. no doubt. the b-side deprogramming sequence comes along with driving bells that give the stomping beat of the track a little uplift and therewith balances out the heavy dark side of the ep.

after emerging from years of seclusion below the chicago underground last year, marquis cooper aka svengalisghost, returns with all new material recorded this winter somewhere between the woods of north carolina and the streets of nyc. an advocate in creating what he calls the anti-beat, cooper takes what he s learned from the traditional machine experimentation of the early pioneers, reconstructs and retransmits the sounds which lie somewhere in the realm of unhinged synth punk or industrial forward-thinking beat electronics. these tracks are truly the essence of house, and a vicious circle it is.

next up on local talk we got a raw peak hour jam from liverpool producer dale howard (lost my dog, large, morris/audio, off rec). there is nothing light or fluffy about these tracks, its just dirty straight up house music with a dark 90s basement feel. for the main track we actually chose the dub version of throwback over of the original mix. we just thought this version was soooo freakin raw even though its more stripped than the original version. you’ll see what we mean when you drop it in the club! the second track in out goes along the same house theories as throwback with jackin beats and deep chords that will do wonders in any authentic house basement. all in all, a might fine release of classic local talk house music. enjoy!

the coombes debut ep is an astonishingly graceful and multifaceted creature that effortlessly synthesizes psych rock, minimal folk and electronica.the coombe began as a soundtrack collaboration between karen sharkey and samuel de la rosa (led er est) for some animated short films karen was producing while living in queens, ny. after their move to texas in 2012, further experimenting resulted in longer songs, noise suites, and field recordings that later would represent the essence of this ep. born and in part recorded in the desert, the coombe is comprised of six mesmerizing gems that provide a rarefied glimpse into a touching and liquid soundscape. these are songs for the enamored.

scott mou, known as one half of the duo jane – the folk techno drone duo he had with panda bear - aswell as part of manhattans famous record store other music, debuts with his soloproject queens. johan jacobsen describes the wonderful music of queens in oxymorons, colorful monochrome, myopic depth, sad joy, driven slowness, enlightened darkness, universal intimacy, ethereal earthboundness ... as it should be. queens is one of those wonderful artists who are hard to catch on the fly, who escapes easy definition. his music is an unexpected and unimagined universe ready to be explored, and it s a universe that is wonderful to be in. when dial records david lieske and peter kersten listened to a performance of their new york based friend in 2009, it was one of those unforgettable unique experiences you only have once in a long while these days. the idea of releasing an album was born. the production of end times involved other labelmates such as phillip sollmann aka efdemin (recording), kassian troyer (mixing) and hendrik weber, who once joined a life performance on stage with scott mou in 2012.

the music is certainly special enough but as the icing on the cake each 12 inch is personally handstamped and handnumbered by fracture himself! these are ultra limited in issue to a mere 500. this is certainly a release that wont be available for long. in fact if they make it past a day we will be very surprised! so dont hang around! if you do you will almost certainly miss out on another piece of metalheadz history. methxx02 welcomes astrophonicas own fracture to the metalheadz camp with an incredible limited edition 12 inch, featuring the tracks better than tomorrow, and gangbusters.

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal.
